Racing The Reaper
Every time I see an ambulance hauling down the freeway with its lights on and sirens blaring, I immediately think about the lives that could change in an instance. I know that my family’s lives sure did the day an ambulance came. When I was a junior in high school, I received a call from my Dad while I was on the way over to a friend’s house. My grandpa had suffered a heart aneurysm while mowing the lawn. My grandma called 911. The paramedics arrived and did what they could, but unfortunately, he passed away in the back of the ambulance on the way to the hospital. It sent shockwaves through our family. One minute everything was great and the next a loved one was gone. That day, I gained a new respect for those men and women. Day in and day out, their job is to go from one near death situation to another, risking everything for a complete stranger. The amount of strength that takes both mentally and physically is absolutely amazing to me. This strap is a thank you to all of you who risk your own well-being to be there for others when hope is running thin.
